No, SiØ only insures the buildings. We are unable to insure your personal belongings. You will have to do this yourself by taking out contents insurance. The National Union of Students in Norway offers its own student insurance package, which is tailormade for students and everything you need for a secure student life at a student-friendly price. The package includes contents, travel and accident cover, and you can also take out disability and life insurance.
Once you have signed your contract and paid your deposit, you are ready to move in.
Please note, keys will not be provided until the deposit has been paid.
If you want to move in before your contract starts, you must contact us via email at email@example.com. This may be possible if the previous tenant has moved out and the unit is ready for a new tenant. In these circumstances, you must pay from the day you move in.
Remmen and Bjølstad IV have an electronic lock system. This means that you let yourself in with the personal key code we give you.
We will send you the code via text message on the same day your contract starts. If your moving in date is a weekend, you will receive the code on the Friday before, although the code will not be activated before the day your contract starts. The code works for both the main door and your own unit.
If the lock blinks red or gold several times before opening, the lock’s battery is low and needs replacing. Contact the caretaker in Halden: +47 906 71 411, or in Fredrikstad: +47 69 60 84 00.
You will have to visit our office to register your student card as your key card for your unit. The electronic letterboxes can only be opened with a card.
You will be allowed to use a code to open the doors for a short while. In the following periods, all outer doors and main doors into shared units and laundries can only be opened using a code:
1 July - 31 August
1 January – 31 January
There are three ways to pay your rent. You can pay via eBill, your online bank or Netaxept.
Bills are sent out on the 1st of each month and fall due on the 15th of the month.
You can pay your bill by logging in to your page on UniAlltid. Click on ‘Pay Bill’ to go to the payment page.
You can pay your bill in your online bank by clicking on ‘View Bill’. This will display the KID reference number and the account number. Download the bill if you want all of the bill details. NB! It is important you use the right KID. It changes every month.
An eBill (eFaktura) is a digital bill that is sent directly to your bank. eBill simplifies bill payments because the KID, payee’s account number, due date and amount are already filled in. The only thing you have to do is to remember to accept each bill.
Parents/others who are paying your rent can also enter into an eBill agreement with SiØ. Some banks can send text message alerts when an eBill is received.
Setting up an eBill agreement
Find your SiØ customer number. This will be at the top right of your contract.
Log in to your online bank and go to eBill (eFaktura).
Choose to set up a new agreement and select ‘Studentsamskipnaden i Østfold’ from the list of eBill providers.
You will then be asked to enter an eBill reference. This is where you enter your SiØ customer number.
When you have finished, your bank will notify us that you have set up an eBill agreement with us.
We know that for many people connection to the Internet is almost more important than connection to the water mains. We therefore recommend that you bring your own network cable so you can connect to the Internet before you have been given a username and password for the wireless network.
You will be given a username and password so you can log on to the wireless network at Østfold University College, which provides the broadband network.
All student units also have a cabled network socket. You do not need a username or password for the cabled network. You can buy a network cable from the SiØ bookshop.
If you are experiencing network problems, please try the following before contacting us:
1. Check your device works in your unit
2. Check your neighbour’s device is working in their unit
3. Check if your device works in your neighbour’s unit
4. Check if your neighbour’s device works in your unit
If at least one device works in each unit, then the problem lies not with the network and the user must check their own device for errors.
If the problem persists, contact the University college’s IT Help Service.
IT Operations accepts the temporary use of private wireless access points on the condition that these use channels 1, 6 or 11 in the 2.4Ghz band (IEEE 802111g) or any channel in the 5Ghz band.
If you use other channels, you will weaken the Eduroam wireless network.
You must bring your own washing powder to wash clothes.
We put out a ‘starter pack’ containing various washing products in shared units at the start of the year. Once you run out of soap and cloths, you are responsible for buying more. The packs do not contain washing-up liquid or hand soap.
